Private Music Lessons in San Jose, CA- In Person and Online
Welcome! My name is Mike Mendoza and I am a professional musician offering private saxophone, flute, and clarinet lessons in San Jose, CA for all ages and skill levels. Whether you're a beginner learning your first notes, a middle or high school student preparing for auditions, or an adult wanting to discover (or rediscover) the joy of playing music, I will create personalized lessons to help you grow quickly and confidently.
I have taught hundreds of students and given thousands of lessons on saxophone, flute, and clarinet. Many of my students have auditioned to be in the top ensembles at their schools as well as Santa Clara County Honor Band and the State of California Honor Band. Some of my students have gone on to study at Berklee College of Music, UCLA, San Jose State, and many other colleges and universities across the country. With over 25 years of private lesson experience, I can customize lessons for all students.
One-on-one instruction gives students a better opportunity to learn the fundamentals of their instrument as well as the ability to help improve their technical skills. We will also cover important techniques such as how to practice at home and how to learn songs and exercises in a short amount of time.
Topics that are covered in lessons include:
-Technical Exercises
-Reading Techniques
-Theory
-Scale Studies
-Introduction into various musical styles (Classical, Jazz, Popular, ect.)
-Assistance with working on ensemble music (school or community ensemble)
Currently, all lessons are conducted either in-person or online through the use of the Zoom app, which can be used on a computer, tablet, or smartphone. All students are required to have the following items for music lessons:
-Instrument (in working order)
-Reeds (except flute) and other necessary accessories
-A device to connect to Zoom and a good internet connection (ONLINE LESSONS)
-Music Book/ Sheet Music (a recommendation will be made if the student does not have)
-Metronome (to keep tempo while playing at home)
In-person lessons are currently available on Mondays-Thursdays and Saturdays at:
